Veganism vs. Vegetarianism

  You hear the terms veganism and vegetarianism a lot, and may not think that there is much of a distinction, but there is.   For example, at some soup places you might see a sign saying “vegan vegetable soup” and wonder what the heck they mean by that.   Although veganism is a subset of vegetarianism, it is quite a different animal, pardon the pun.

Finding Your Motivation: Your Reason For Getting In Shape

 I don't know about you but I have always found that actually working out is
much easier than actually making the decision to start working out. Nothing
will make you feel more worthless than packing your workout bag and having
it sit in your car unoppened for months at a time while you hem and haw about
getting your lazy butt to the gym.

It's sad but most of us actually have to shame outrselves into making the
decision to start working out or dieting. How many times have you looked into the mirror
in the morning as you were getting ready for work or school and noticed that your
eyes were instantly drawn to your bulging belly or double chin? Then you tell
yourself while pinching said fat "I need to get to the gym". Then like the movie
Groundhog Day, you do it all over again, morning after morning.

Tell Us Your Workout Routine

  Are you a Circuit Trainging fanatic?  Or is Pilates your thing.  Do you have a training regimen that you use to burn fat or one that you've found that boosts cardio.  Whatever your routine, we encourage you to visit the Forum or start a Group and share it with others.

Maybe you'll find a routine that sparks your interest enough to try.  Heres one of our favorites:

SQUAT HOP LUNGE

 Take 2 5lb dumbells and stand with your feet about shoulder width apart. 

1.  Squat while holding dumbells straight out from body.

2.  From the squat position, hop straight up while bringing dumbells back to your side.

3. Lunge forward while bringing the dumbells straight above your head in a pressing motion.

repeat from step one and alternate lunging from left leg to right leg.  Do 4 sets of 10 with a 10 second rest between sets.

You can work your way up to 6 sets of 20 or more.  Do this once a day before work, at lunch or in the evening.

If you’ve made the commitment to becoming vegetarian yet finding it difficult to make the transition in your diet and your lifestyle, here’s some suggestions on how to make the switch a smoother ride. Start out with committing to be a vegetarian for three days per week for the first couple of weeks. Start substituting ingredients in your favorite dishes to make them truly meatless. Throw in mushrooms to that marinara sauce to take the place of meatballs, or try some textured vegetable protein (TVP) in that lasagna recipe. Making simple replacements in your tried and true recipes can inspire you to stay on the vegetarian track once you see how delicious they can be.
